Dirk Messner – Kapuscinski Development Lectures – what top thinkers think about development

Prof. Dirk Messner is a political scientist and development economist. He is the Director of the German development Institute (Bonn, Germany), and he holds the position of professor for political science at the University of Duisburg-Essen. Messner also is Vice-Chair of the German Advisory Council on Global Change (WBGU). He was an Academic Director at the Institute for Development and Peace at the University of Duisburg (1995-2002). Professor Messner held the position of Professor for International Political Economy at the Ludwig-Maximillians-University of Munich (2003). Messner’s areas of specialization include: globalization and global governance; global environmental change/climate change and impacts on international development; world economy, international and systemic competitiveness, development in Latin America and Asia; state and development; governance theories, network theories; development policy; China and India as drivers of global change.
